Grad Photos!

My good friend Carling Nugent is graduating tomorrow with her Bachelors Degree and hired me to shoot some photos for her. We wanted to have some fun with them, and still keep her parents happy with some more traditional photos too, so we went out with some lights and headed to a couple locations to make some photos!

First Setup – Coulee shots.  It was a bit windy so I opted for the diffused beauty dish over the Octa because it’s a KITE in the wind, and it helps that the beauty dish is VERY efficient light-output-wise, so we get faster recycle times.  Single source camera left, sun camera right.

Second setup was in an alley in downtown Lethbridge.   Same light setup – Single source: Diffused 22″ Beauty Dish on an AB800.  Yet another example of why buying good lightstands matters. Sometimes, you really need the height to get above your subject. Setup Shot: Rod Leland Photo - Lit Portrait in Lethbridge

Lastly, we wanted to have a bit of fun with the grad gown, and Carling suggested a Wizard shot as grad gowns closely resemble wizard robes- Who am I to say no to an awesome idea like that!  I wanted to really get a hard, edgy look, so I added two more AB800′s bare with the stock reflector’s as rim lights, and we found a stick as a wand. Underexposed the background, post-processed aggressively, and the results are awesome! Setup shots:

Wingardium Leviosa!

Had a LOT of fun and it was great to get away from shooting corporate and executive portraits for a bit! More to come :)
